Returning client, The Acorn Group, worked closely with MPL to create a new office in Kirkdale, SE London, featuring a public-facing ground floor space with an urban warehouse feel and a basement inspired by a deluxe ski lodge.
MPL’s 3D plans were instrumental in getting this office right. The client had a strong idea of what the floors should look like and the 3D plans allowed us to create a final space layout design, plan the finish and see how the two themes gelled together before work started onsite.
Characterising the ground floor are urban elements, including exposed air conditioning ducts, an untreated ceiling and imitation brick vinyl wallpaper.
The walls are painted in cool shades of grey and a false wall finished with a 3D concrete-effect cladding, housing a flush fit digital screen.
Completing the ground floor is a private meeting space, enclosed by bespoke brushed steel upright slats that have been sprayed in Acorn’s distinctive corporate red, a new fitted kitchen and new cloakrooms. New floor coverings and all new office furniture were also supplied by MPL.
The basement is where the ski lodge theme takes over. Although the brief was to create a different feel on the lower level, the colour choices create a sense of cohesion with the design above.
The space is divided into two areas – a break-out zone that resembles a lounge and a more formal meeting room with a glass wall for privacy, which echoes a luxury chalet dining room.
Subtle shades of grey, textured fabrics, feature lighting, wood-effect wallpaper and exposed structural elements echo the design on the ground floor but have been specified to create an intimate feeling.
MPL Interiors also installed the exterior business signage and window displays, with cable-strung LED window display pockets, an illuminated fascia and projecting sign.
This Acorn office refurbishment project took eight weeks to complete.
