There can be no more notorious refurbishment than the very expensive one that has recently taken place at No. 11 Downing Street – the home of the newly-wedded Mr & Mrs Boris Johnson. A national outcry occurred when news leaked of a reported £200,000 cost to renovate the Prime Minister’s London residence, with a dubious source of funds too.
For all of the refurbishment’s lavish aspects, specified by interior designer Lulu Lytle, it is ‘wallpaper gate’ that has caused the most outrage. Gold wallpaper that cost over £800 a roll caused outrage, with the hand crafted covering reportedly falling down within weeks of being installed.
While Boris and Carrie haven’t had much luck with their wallpaper, MPL Interiors has become a master at sourcing, supplying and applying commercial-grade, durable and highly decorative wallpaper.
Over the years we have included wallpaper in our office designs for its colour, pattern and even texture. As experts, however, we know that preparation is key. Even during the first fix, we have the application of wallpaper in mind, and our second fix ensures surfaces that will receive the wallpaper treatment are as smooth as can be for a flawless finish.
Many of our clients have enjoyed a wallpapered feature wall – or an entirely papered room – for many years. With us, people have confidence that the paper will not peel off the next month - or cost them a king’s ransom to buy – as we are mindful of budgets, suitability and location when we make our paper suggestions.
