Keeping Coopers consistent
Each Coopers project MPL has completed has been about brand consistency. Underpinning each office is a set of core design values, seen again in this new Uxbridge branch – a dark blue corporate identity and bold wall art. We reused one illuminated canvas from the old premises and commissioned two new pieces, keeping the urban photography theme to knit Coopers’ network of offices together. The wood-effect floor has been upgraded this time from plank style to parquet, while wire frame and naked bulb pendant lights keep things contemporary yet familiar.
Something old and also something new
MPL always finds space to weave in new elements and subtle twists to mark out each new branch. When it came to the walls in this new office, we mixed a smooth render finish with brick slip panels from Dreamwall for textural diversity. Particularly effective is the illuminated canvas that has been recess sunk into the wall of the soft seating area. Our design team also introduced some Crittall details – not only on-trend but also the perfect complement to the original façade windows. A new Crittall style internal door allowed us to create an entrance lobby and black framed glass partitions were used to subtly divide the interior space.
Exterior impact
The ‘reuse, reduce and recycle’ mantra that saw us move an existing canvas from the old Uxbridge office to the new also applied to the exterior signage. We took down the original sign from the smaller office, sent it back to the factory for new lights and a polish, and installed this at the bigger premise. Due to its double fronted aspect, we commissioned a second sign that was a mirror image. Twelve individually-illuminated A2 display units were new additions that completed the exterior facelift.
Additional elements
MPL specified new storage, seating and office furniture throughout this design. One of the highlights is the new meeting space, which has a drawing room feel and is influenced by the retention of one of two original fireplaces. Here rich shades of navy blue and grey have been combined with gold highlights for an indulgent feel.
