MPL was commissioned to undertake a complete renovation of a former restaurant in Beaconsfield. The brief was to reconfigure the space for a business, not a hospitality, environment, create a new public-facing ground floor workplace and create a set of first floor offices suitable for sub-letting.
While much of the former restaurant had been stripped out, the premise still sported a traditional restaurant layout and there were pockets of damage throughout. While our onsite team concentrated on making good, our designers created new space plans for both floors.
The desired outcome required the removal of some internal walls and areas divided into different places using new partitions. With the bones of the revamped office in place, work could start on the new fixtures, fittings and décor aspects.
Our work for Bovingdons saw us reuse two key elements of the fit out, following the ethos of circular economy Cat C fit outs. MPL refurbished the salvageable parquet flooring, which provided a bold base layer to the interior design. Areas that were beyond repair were replaced with either carpet or non-slip flooring.
We also re-used and augmented as much of the pre-installed HVAC system as possible, with new additions where required.
Our design brief was to create an office suitable for an upscale demographic in one of the most affluent suburbs in the Home Counties – Beaconsfield. The preference was for luxe warmth over corporate clinical, and gilded finishes, wood tones and simple lines found favour.
New partitions took a classic Crittall form but were upgraded by using a brass finish and with reeded glass to the lower portions. Classic touches were added, in the shape of brass and opaque glass wall sconce and pendant lights, and low-profile furniture featuring slim legs and brass detailing.
Look closer and heritage-led character now imbues the two floors, with deep skirting boards, wall mouldings and intricately detailed cornicing reflecting the refined qualities of bygone design eras.
The overall look is the essence of Chelsea’ Cadogan Estate – a decadent mix of neoclassical elements and Art Deco charm, designed to resonate with the local clientele and reflect the company’s brand.
A sophisticated atmosphere was also achieved by commissioning bespoke elements and specifying an upscale aesthetic. Walnut-inspired finishes are evident throughout, from the bespoke bookcase and the timber slat walls to the rich chocolate brown shade of paint.
There’s also a bespoke reception desk, wrapped in a marble-effect vinyl with under counter lighting and Bovingdons logo. The marble theme continues in the client waiting area, with the occasional tables topped with the distinctive veined pattern.
MPL completed a full redecoration of the two floors, supplied all new office furniture and performed an electrical reconfiguration. The final element of this project was the replacement of the unusual glass shopfront that belonged to the restaurant, together with removing the old awning and replacing it with a new Bovingdons branded version.
