The brief

MPL Interiors was asked to bring industrial chic to this blank canvass through texture, colour and interior dressing.

The internal aesthetics were especially important as the new branch had two glass-fronted entrances, meaning the general public could see inside the office from a number of angles. This increased the client’s desire to have a design-led estate agency office refurbishment.

Industrial by way of optical illusion

Tactile wall finishes were introduced using adhesive vinyl wallpaper that was custom printed with photographs of real textures. We used a white brick wall effect and a grey wood grain effect, printed to look like horizontally laid planks for an urban look. The brick and wood textures are joined by a durable floor covering inspired by concrete. Elsewhere, vintage-style metal light pendants and bare bulbs suspended from cord add industrial detail.

Softening and creating comfort

To keep the look from becoming too harsh or austere, MPL curated a collection of occasional chairs and soft furnishings in creams and muted greys to create a comfortable environment. The same theme has been carried up to the first floor, where Charters has its administrative, land and new homes teams. Most striking is the bespoke wall art created digitally by one of our designers.

Additional aspects

Other custom made items include a nickel-framed map, stud mounted wall signage, 3D wall art, opaque vinyl decals customising glass panels, an illuminated projecting sign to the outside, outdoor signage to the façades, LED window display pockets (in both cable strung and podium mounted forms), new office furniture and office storage. The ground floor also features a small kitchenette and drinks station, designed and fitted by MPL.
