When Hurford Salvi Carr wanted to make the boldest design statements possible at two of its most prestigious London branches, it asked MPL Interiors to work alongside renowned architect, Danny Shafrir, to create a unique estate agency commercial design.

The brief
Hurford Salvi Carr came to MPL with ambitious plans after it acquired two new branches – one on City Road between Old Street and Angel and the other in Aldgate. In a bid to create two mould-breaking offices, this estate agency office refurb involved bespoke fixtures and fittings that were truly one-of-a-kind.
Our approach: City Road
The architect gave the City Road office an industrial theme. For us, the starting point was the specification of a set of unusual property display units, taking inspiration from old mangles. A bespoke approach was the only answer, so MPL’s design team worked with steel and LED light panels to create the floor mounted designs, complete with a traditional wheel-style handle feature.
MPL Interiors also created a ceiling-mounted LED-lit A1 display pocket in steel, which allows Hurford Salvi Carr to display posters and marketing messages. Other major facets installed by MPL include a nine-screen media wall, two bespoke ceiling-mounted light-box signs and a printed vinyl window map.
Our approach: Aldgate
Danny Shafrir created a design heavily influenced by Moorish extravagance and 7* hotel receptions for the Aldgate office. MPL’s window display expertise was called upon once again and we were charged with hand-making several brass units for the extensive glass frontage.
The brass units were hand fabricated by skilled craftsmen and colour matched to the gold fretwork panels. Each unit is suspended from matching floor-to-ceiling posts, which are hollow inside to cleverly hide the wiring. Each A3 property display pocket is powered by integral LED lights and is set at an optimum angle to ensure passers-by don’t have to bend down to view the property details.
MPL Interiors also created and installed the window signage that, as a result of planning covenants, had to be installed inside the office. These box-style illuminated signs are also mounted to the floor-to-ceiling posts for a floating effect and to keep the overall look as streamlined as possible.
