Marylebone Implant Centre was introduced to MPL Interiors because they are part of the Dentex group of practices – an organisation we are completing an increasing amount of healthcare refits for.
With a practice aimed squarely at the upper end of the market, the client wanted a customer journey that matched the calibre of its clientele and their spend on treatments. The Marylebone Implant Centre also wanted to ensure its public-facing areas set them apart in a highly competitive market, helping to attract new business and retain current patients.
MPL’s site visit took us back to the heart of the Harley Street healthcare district in London – a neighbourhood in which we have worked numerous times. The practice is set in a handsome period building that has retained many ornate, original features and this refined setting gave the team a good design grounding.
We used our industry connections to organise a series of interior showroom visits together with the client, ensuring exactly the right elements were sourced. Our tour of fixture, fittings and furniture designers exposed the client to the widest range of items possible and together we formulated a theme we christened ‘modern luxe’ – underpinned by durable and practical qualities for high traffic areas.
Influences were drawn from classic mid-century furniture, the Art Deco era and more modern Scandi chic, resulting in an elegant yet fresh set of communal areas. The colour palette was chosen to set a relaxing tone, with shades of buttery taupe and light grey combined with matt gold and warm wood, all sitting at ease within their period surroundings.
The most design-led but practical element at Marylebone Implant Centre was the bespoke reception desk. The MPL team created a one-of-a-kind item that now provides a stunning focal point as soon as you step into the waiting room.
Set at two heights – a higher level that affords the receptionist privacy and a lower level for accessibility – the desk features a decadent marble panel as its predominant feature. As this is a custom-made item, MPL’s team were also able to include internal illumination that serves as another design point but also adds an extra source of ambient lighting. To ensure a smooth transition to a more sophisticated reception set up, MPL adapted all the power and data supplies so any cabling was safely hidden from view.
The marble used in the reception desk has been echoed in the choice of coffee tables, which are also topped with a subtly-veined grey and white marble. Occasional chairs, two coffee tables and a rug complete the plush waiting area.
With a myriad of patient files and paperwork to house, MPL also specified a number of new storage solutions that were sleek enough to have out on show. These design-led alternatives to low-grade metal filing cabinets were specified for their slimline profile.
