Natural Smiles, Leicester

The Brief

Our healthcare refurbishment for Dr. Bhavnish Waghela BDS, MFGDP, RCS - the owner of Natural Smiles in Leicester - tackled the issue of nervous dental patients.

She briefed MPL Interiors to create a front-of-house that was calm and serene, designed to put people at ease as soon as they arrived. We also transformed the technical side of Natural Smiles, refitting its treatment and specialist rooms.

Our Approach

We took our influences from spas - places of relaxed serenity - using a calm colour palette and tactile furnishings across the practice's three front-of-house areas: the reception, the waiting room, and a kitchenette.

Putting patients at ease as soon as they arrive

A statement reception desk is the main feature to greet patients. This was specifically sourced and customised with bespoke illumination adding an extra dimension. Behind the desk is a Natural Smiles wall logo, which is also illuminated to increase brand visibility. Finishing this 'welcome zone' is a row of globe-style feature lights in glass and chrome.

Homely touches help relaxation

Patients are then guided to an area that is more living room that austere waiting room with sofas, scatter cushions, free-standing lamps, and a floor rug.

There's also a bespoke partition that divides off a small kitchenette area, with a row of floating shelves, work surface space and under counter storage, which houses an integrated fridge and provides a neat area for preparing drinks.

Getting technical in the treatment rooms

Behind the scenes, MPL created two treatment rooms, an implant suite, a sterilisation room, a consultation office, a laboratory, an x-ray room, and cloakroom facilities. New glass partitions and stud walls were installed to divide the space and MPL Interiors worked closely with the specialist equipment suppliers to ensure the data and power points were installed in the right places.

Additional aspects

Embracing the era of screen-based marketing, Natural Smiles now has a number of points at which patients can view marketing and aftercare messages. Screens feature in the waiting area, the reception, the consultation office and in the treatment rooms. MPL Interiors also laid new flooring, made good the walls and repainted, installed new lighting and personalised surfaces with Natural Smiles' branding.
