Detailed 2D plans
MPL Interiors was asked to create 2D plans that would be followed by all the trades involved in the building refurbishment, and these detailed lighting, heating, electrical and data points across the two floors. Our designs also illustrated the division of space and positioning of furniture – essential so all the services and fixtures married up with the store and staffing needs.
Secure by design
Unlike many other retail fit-outs, we had to build in an increased level of security into the front-of-house. The reception desk is of similar construction to the one you would find in a bank and in this instance, made to match the floor covering. Special features include concealed steel plates, a ‘smoke cloak’ security system, a key pad-operated door to the back office, toughened safety glass, deposit/cash hatches, an emergency shutter system and recessed spotlights.
High-impact exterior
With the shop front rebuilt, it was left to MPL to design an eye-catching window display. We used a combination of double-sided LED light panels and a digital screen to draw attention, incorporating subtle security built by using smoked glass and a vinyl edging. We also specified the metallic fascia lettering and applied it to the shop front.
Adding aesthetic appeal
The client supplied MPL with a number of images they wanted printed, framed and displayed on the wall. We had custom-built frames made to match the interior decor and added drama by illuminating with picture lamps. We also built a half partition just behind the reception counter. This provides a degree of privacy but also doubles as a security point, as we installed a recessed screen to the rear of the partition, which displays multiple CCTV feeds. The front of the partition is branded with an internally-lit logo.
Additional elements:
MPL also installed a feature drop ceiling complete with hidden lighting, added decorative coving, and provided new modesty panels and logo branding for the existing office desks.
