MPL was called upon by high-end jewellers, Steven Stone, to execute a new design concept at its Marylebone store. Having seen our refurbishment work for Watches.co.uk and Deepdene Safe Deposit Centre – two projects where high-value items and luxury values were key – the client knew we could fulfil its brief. The exterior and interior had not been updated since the store opened in 2015, so the client wanted a more boutique feel to reflect its current brand vision.
While the interior, exterior and aesthetic elements of this project didn’t present any challenge for the MPL team, the timeframe in which the job needed to be completed required careful planning. With a two-week window for the work, in which the client was able to vacate the premises, our first job was to devise a design, order and install schedule to meet the tight deadline.
Having been given a design concept to follow, our second phase was to adapt the vision into a working model that could be tangibly brought to life. While we were asked to repurpose the client’s current display units, we did have to strip back and refit many elements of the store.
With display integral to the retail success of Steven Stone, lighting became a focus for MPL. The first fix stage allowed us to implement a full electrical rewire and a reconfiguration of the lighting rings to take into account the store’s security system and new lighting elements. This reworking facilitated a number of LED rope light installations, illuminated floating shelves and a halo-lit wall logo – all with no trailing wires.
The client wanted to elevate its two private areas, where clients can sit down with the design team and create bespoke items of jewellery. Steven Stone wanted these spaces to offer more of an experience. The new look is far more luxe, with a fresh décor, stylish accessories and soft drapes that can be closed for privacy.
A more sophisticated exterior was created to reflect the brand’s boutique image. MPL specified new signage, with subtle class achieved with the use of individually-lit, built-up letters. A new projecting sign was added and the exterior repainted in deepest charcoal grey. Also new is a decorative metal panel mounted between the two window displays, bearing the brand’s logo of two interlocking ‘s’ letters.
Our work for Steven Stone included a thorough redecoration, the application of Armourcoat polished plaster, the addition of extra moulding details to some walls, new flooring laid, new joinery, and the supply and install of new furniture.
